SPECIFIC AND NON-SPECIFIC ANALYSIS OF ACEHNESE DEIXIS

Until now, deixis studies in regional languages, especially in Acehnese  have never been carried out. This qualitative descriptive study uses the Functional Systemic Linguistics (LSF) theory initiated by M.A.K. Halliday with the aim of describing the types of deixis in Acehnese contained in folklore texts and field notes. The results showed that Acehnese has two types of deixis, namely specific and non-specific deixis. Specific deixis is characterized by (1) determinative demonstratives such as nyoe 'this' and nyan 'that' (2) interrogative demonstratives such as töh/yang töh mantöng, 'which/whichever', peue/peue mantöng 'what/whatever', (3) possessive/determinative ownership such as ata/atra lôn 'mine', or atra kah 'yours', or/atra kamoe 'our', or/atra jih 'hers', or/atra awak nyan 'theirs', ata/atra sidroe-droe ureueng' someone's', or atra si Aminah 'belonging to Aminah, or atra syedaralôn 'belonging to my brother', (4) possessive/interrogative possession like seupo 'whose', seupo nyang poe 'who has', ureueng pane yang po 'which person has'. Unspecific deixis is characterized by (1) the presence of a singular positive totality element such as tiep 'every', (2) the presence of a singular negative totality element such as hana 'no', hana sit 'not also', (3) There is an element of positive totality in the form of non-singular, such as mandua 'both' and mandum 'all' (4) there is an element of unmarked negative totality such as kön/kön ... mantöng 'not only’ (5) the existence of a single selective total element such as sa, 'one’, and lom 'also’ (6) the presence of a non-single selective total element such as meupadum 'several' and hana meusaboh pih 'none' (7) the existence of a partial element singular such as saboh 'an', sa 'one', and dua 'two' (8) the existence of non-singular partial elements such as meupadum 'several', and hana meusaboh pih 'none'.
